Description: As AI transforms higher education and the global workforce, there has been growing interest in ensuring that students learn the durable skills (a.k.a., soft skills, career competencies, etc.) necessary for success in their careers. This presentation will introduce participants to a durable skills framework and highlight why these competencies are critical for student success alongside emerging AI tools. Participants will learn practical strategies for embedding durable skills into assignments and course activities across disciplines.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
1. Identify the 10 core durable skills in the America Succeeds framework.
2. Explain the value of durable skills for preparing students for long-term career and life success.
3. Analyze a current course syllabus or assignment to identify where and how durable skills are implicitly or explicitly taught.
4. Design a learning activity or assignment that intentionally develops a targeted durable skill.
